Today’s
blog post has a “not really missing” 1973 card for former pitcher Tommy
Moore, who made his MLB debut in 1972 with three appearances for the
New York Mets:
Moore put together a nice 2.92 earned run average over 12.1 innings of
work for the Mets, striking out five, though not factoring in a decision
in his first taste of the Big Leagues.
He’d appear in another three games the following season, with much
different results, sporting a bloated 10.80 ERA over 3.1 innings
pitched, taking one loss against no-wins.
He’d spend all of 1974 in the Minors before making it back to a Big
League mound in 1975, starting the season with the St. Louis Cardinals
before moving on to the Texas Rangers, going a combined 0-2 with a 6.13
ERA over 39.2 innings.
Again, he would spend an entire year in the Minor Leagues, this time the
Bicentennial year of 1976 before being purchased by the new Seattle
Mariner organization, going on to appear in what would be his last Major
League games, 14 to be exact, during the team’s inaugural season of
1977.
He went 2-1 for Seattle, with an ERA of 4.91 over 33 innings, starting
one of those appearances, striking out 13 while walking 21.
All told, he finished his brief career with a record of 2-4, along with
an ERA of 5.40 over 42 appearances, three of them starts, and 88.1
innings pitched.

MISSING IN ACTION- 1976 TOMMY MOORE
Here’s
a “missing” 1976 card for a pitcher who had 22 appearances during the
1975 season, Tommy Moore, who split time with the St. Louis Cardinals
and Texas Rangers:
Moore, who didn’t see any Major League action in 1974 after playing the previous two years with the New York Mets, was back up in 1975, now as a Cardinal, and saw 10 games out of the bullpen though not factoring in a decision.
He posted a 3.86 earned run average with six strikeouts over 18.2 innings of work before being traded to the Rangers along with Ed Brinkman for Willie Davis, former Los Angeles star outfielder.
The change of scenery did not do him any favors, as he proceeded to post an 0-2 record over twelve games and 21 innings along with an unsightly 8.14 E.R.A.
He’d miss the 1976 season, putting up a decent year in the Minors, before making it back to the Majors in 1977 with the last 14 games of his career, this time as a Seattle Mariners player.
All told for his Major League career, Moore posted a 2-4 record with a 5.40 E.R.A. and 40 strikeouts over 42 appearances, all but three of them as a reliever.

NOT REALLY MISSING IN ACTION- 1974 TOMMY MOORE
Here’s
a “not so missing” 1974 card for former pitcher Tommy Moore of the New
York Mets, who appeared in three games for the eventual National League
champs:
Moore had his second MLB tour during the ‘73 season, posting a record of 0-1 with a 10.80 earned run average in those three games and 3.1 innings pitched.
In 1972, he had his first taste of the “big show”, also appearing in three games, not figuring in a decision with a much nicer 2.92 E.R.A.
After spending the 1974 season in the minors, he’d make it back in 1975, splitting the season with the St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers, appearing in 22 games, going 0-2 with a 6.13 E.R.A. over 39.2 innings, the most action he’d see in any of his 4 seasons as a big-leaguer.
After yet another season in the minor leagues in 1976, he would play the final 14 games of his career as a member of the inaugural Seattle Mariners team in 1977, winning two games against one loss with a 4.91 E.R.A., finishing his career with a 2-4 record over 42 games and 88.1 innings.

MISSING IN ACTION- 1978 TOMMY MOORE
Here’s
a card for an “original” Seattle Mariner from their inaugural 1977
season, pitcher Tommy Moore who was missing from the 1978 set:
Since it WAS the organization’s first season as a Major League club it’s nice to see the faces of those players who started it all, no?
Moore appeared in 14 games for Seattle in 1977, posting a 2-1 record with a 4.91 earned run average over 33 innings.
It turns out those two wins would be the only wins of Moore’s four-year career that began with the New York Mets in 1972.
Between ‘72 and 1975 he suited up for the Mets, St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers, with missed seasons in 1974 and 1976 before that final bow in 1977.
All told he ended up with a 2-4 record in 42 lifetime appearances, with a 5.40 ERA and 40 strikeouts in 88.1 innings pitched.
