NICKNAMES OF THE 1970's: 1970 PAUL "MOTORMOUTH" BLAIR

On the blog today, we have a 1970 "Nicknames of the 1970's" card for Gold Glove outfielder Paul Blair of the Baltimore Orioles:

Though a decent hitter in his own right, Blair was a superstar fielding outfielder for the O's, taking home eight Gold Gloves for his excellence in the field, seven consecutively between 1969-1975.
He was known to taunt hitters by playing shallow, then sprinting deep to track down fly balls.
A member of four world champion teams (Orioles in 1966/70; Yankees 1977/78), Blair put together an excellent 17-year career playing between 1964 and 1980 for the Orioles, Yanks and Reds.
He'd finish with a .250 batting average with 1513 hits, 134 homers and 171 stolen bases over 1947 games and 6673 plate appearances.

TRADED- 1977 PAUL BLAIR

Today I post up my 1977 “Traded” card for Gold Glover Paul Blair, who found himself heading to the division-rival New York Yankees before the season began:

Now, I do know that Blair would actually have a “Yankees” 1977 card as part of the Burger King set, but I wanted to add to my running set since I like the horizontal lay-out I’ve been working with.
Blair was traded to the Bronx for Elliot Maddox and Rick Bladt, and lucky for him he’d end up being a part of the back-to-back World Champion “Bronx Zoo” teams.
That would give him four World Championships over his stellar career, two with Baltimore and two with New York, along with an amazing eight Gold Gloves and two All-Star nods.
One of the greatest fielding outfielders the game ever saw, Blair anchored the outfield for the powerhouse Orioles of the late-60’s/early-70’s while giving them a solid bat as well.
He would end up putting in a very nice 17-year Major League career before retiring in 1980 at the age of 36, hitting .250 with 1513 hits, 134 homer, 171 stolen bases and 776 runs scored.

R.I.P. PAUL BLAIR: CENTERFIELDER PAR EXCELLENCE: 1944-2013

February 1, 1944- December 26, 2013.

Sad to hear that former Orioles, Yankees and Reds center fielder Paul Blair passed away yesterday at the age of 69.
Blair was the finest fielding center fielder of his day, winning eight Gold Gloves in nine years, and was a member of four championship teams (1966/1970 Orioles and 1977/1978 Yankees) during his 17-year career spanning 1964 and 1980.
Rest in peace "Motormouth", you'll be missed by many.
