Today
I’m adding 15-year Major League veteran Enos “Big E” Cabell to the long
line of “nicknames of the 1970’s” stable, with a 1977 edition:
I always loved the man’s actual names as a kid, and adding the “Big E” makes it even better!
Cabell was just coming into his own around the time this card would have
seen the light of day, coming off his first full season in the Majors,
hitting .273 with 160 hits and 85 runs scored for the Houston Astros.
In 1978 he had his best season, collecting 195 hits and batting .295
with 92 runs and 71 RBIs, even getting some MVP attention at the end of
the year.
He would go on to play 15 years in the Big Leagues, hitting a very
respectable .277 while collecting 1647 hits and 238 stolen bases over
1688 games and 5952 at-bats between 1972 and 1986.
“Big E”!
