1975 IN-ACTION: DON MONEY

Time to add former All-Star infielder Don Money to my long-running 1975 “In-Action” thread, as he was smack in the middle of a very nice 16-year Major League career:

Money was coming off of his first All-Star season of 1974, a year that also saw him set a new record of 78 straight games at third base without an error.
One thing I never realized is that he was the starting second baseman for the American League in the 1978 All-Star game, yet ended up playing more games at first base that year.
The man was versatile to say the least!
He wasn’t all defense however, as he’d hit as many as 25 home runs in a season (1977), as well as collect as many as 178 hits (1974) during his career.
The four-time all-star would retire after the 1983 season with 1623 hits, 176 homers and 798 runs scored over 1720 games.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE 1970'S: DON MONEY SETS ERRORLESS STREAK FOR THIRD BASEMAN

Thanks to my buddy John Seibel, I was sent an awesome photo (and idea) just perfect for a 1970’s “Highlight” card, Don Money and his errorless streak at third base during the 1974 season:

Money, who was one of the top defensive third baseman of his era, played in 86 straight games without an error, with 78 setting the new record as shown on the decorated base he’s holding.
Oddly enough he’d go on to play various positions soon after this, even starting the 1978 all-star game for the American League at second base, leading to his all-star card in the 1979 set.

AIRBRUSHING THROUGH MILWAUKEE- 1973 DON MONEY

I just LOVE the near-NEON paint job on Don Money’s 1973 Topps card:

After finding his way over to Milwaukee from the Philadelphia Phillies, Topps had to scramble to get the team right, and here you go!
Money would play out the rest of his 16-year career with the Brewers, getting named to four all-star teams while providing the team with some “pop” and stability in the infield.
Retiring after the 1983 season at the age of 36, he’d finish with a .261 batting average with 1623 hits and 176 home runs over 1720 games and 6215 at-bats, getting a chance at World Series action with the powerful 1982 Brewers team led by guys like Molitor, Yount and Cooper, to name a few.
