NOT REALLY MISSING IN ACTION- 1971 ED GOODSON

Today's blog post has a "not so missing" 1971 card for a guy I have created other such slabs in the past, former infielder Ed Goodson of the San Francisco Giants:

 

Goodson made his Major League debut in 1970, appearing in seven games and hitting .273 with three hits over eleven at-bats with a run scored.

He would appear in 20 games the following year, hitting .190 with eight hits over 42 at-bats, with four runs scored and a run batted in.
Basically a player off the bench his entire career, he had a very nice 1973 season for San Fran when he batted .302 with 12 homers and 53 runs batted in over 102 games, easily his best season in the Major League.
Overall for his eight-year MLB career, Goodson finished with a .260 batting average, with 329 hits over 1266 at-bats, with 108 runs scored and 170 runs batted in, with 30 homers in 515 games between 1970 and 1977.

AIRBRUSHING THROUGH THE 1970'S- 1976 ED GOODSON

About three years ago I created a 1976 Ed Goodson card featuring him as an Atlanta Braves, to mark the 1975 season before his trade to the Los Angeles Dodgers as part of the “1976 Project” for my buddy “Reader Jim”.
Recently I found the airbrushed image that was used for his actual 1976 Topps card, so I decided to post it here along with the card I created way back when. Check it out:

Goodson was part of the trade between Atlanta and Los Angeles that included Dusty Baker going West while Lee Lacy, Tom Paciorek, Jerry Royster and Jim Wynn went East.
Seems like a lopsided deal no?
Anyway, Topps had to scramble for all those players to get them on their “current” team for the 1976 set, giving us some memorable airbrushing.

1976 PROJECT- ED GOODSON

Here’s a card created for the ongoing “1976 Project” a while back featuring former infielder Ed Goodson, who actually appeared in the 1976 set as a Los Angeles Dodger, with the team he finished the 1975 season with, the Atlanta Braves:

Goodson would go on to play the final two years of his eight-year career with the Dodgers in 1976 and 1977, but since “Reader Jim” shares my feelings that a set represents more of what happened the previous season, sort of like a “yearbook”, he asked me to create a Braves card.
Originally a San Francisco Giant between 1970 through midway 1975, Goodson found himself in Atlanta for the final 47 games before moving on to L.A.
Basically a catcher off the bench his entire career, he had a very nice 1973 season for San Fran when he batted .302 with 12 homers and 53 runs batted in over 102 games, easily his best season in the Major League.
