Here’s
a card that could arguably be considered “missing” from the 1978 set, a
card for former first baseman and outfielder Dan Briggs of the
California Angels:
Briggs appeared in 59 games for the Angels in 1977, though only
accumulating 83 plate appearances while hitting .214 with 12 hits over
74 at-bats.
Funny enough, after appearing in only 15 games in 1978 for the Cleveland
Indians, he’d get a card from Topps in 1979, as well as 1980 and 1982.
All told, Briggs’ Major League career spanned 1975 through 1982, playing
seven seasons where he hit .195 with 134 hits over 688 at-bats, hitting
12 home runs with 53 runs batted in and 67 runs scored in 325 games.
