So it seems another of our "friends" is at it again! Stealing everyone's custom card designs and selling them on Ebay! It was thankfully brought to my attention and now I want to be a prick about it.
If everyone would like to do me a small favor and just go to one or two of his listings, and ask im to stop selling cards that are not his to sell, that would be awesome.
How lame can a person be!? With all the software available you'd think he'd just whip up a few cards and sell HIS OWN stuff!
His "store" is: jb42sellcheap and his ebay ID is mr.0ddball420
He is selling cards created by John from "Cards That Never Were", myself and others.
He's even been so disgusting as to take some of the late Bob Lemke's cards and putting them up for sale! That's actually what's pissing me off more than anything.
So please, if you can take a couple of minutes whenever you have the time and drop him a line that would be great.
Here are a couple of quick links to his items:

Here is the message I sent him: Hello! Just a quick note, I am a friend of the person who designed this card and many others you are selling. Making custom cards takes a lot of time and effort and to see someone else 'borrow and sell' for a profit does not seem proper. Maybe if you were to contact Gio (When Topps had Balls), he might make some sort of deal with you but until that time, please discontinue using his cards for profit. If not, people like him will stop sharing their creations and the rest of us will not be able to enjoy them. His blog is the first one I go to every morning to see his latest artwork. Do the right thing. Respectfully, Dave
ReplyDeleteThanks Dave! Perfect! Really appreciate it...
DeleteI had been meaning to ask you about this. Ran across his site last week and thought a bunch of the cards looked really familiar.
ReplyDeleteWill do! Thanks for all the great card creations!
He made it tough to 'ask a question' about an item but I went thru his contact link on his store page. Just thought I'd save others some time.
ReplyDeletebtw....I wasn't as diplomatic as Dave was. I just told him he was a f'ing crook.
Ha! I promise you i can be the most undiplomatic guy out there, burr i guess I'm finally trying to be restrained in my old age... ;) appreciate it!!!!
DeleteLOL, I am typically not so PC. My 'speak my mind' personality has lost me a job or two.
DeleteFYI, just doing a quick sampling of his offerings and the quantities all ready sold, this crook has made at least $10k from other peoples artwork.

ReplyDeleteI love making custom cards, mostly of the Tigers. I have a custom set of Seattle pilots also. I make them to send out and get autographed. I have not done any the past year because of other commitments though. I have been guarded about sharing them unless I have it all ready autographed. I became guarded once when I shared a cool custom with a 'friend' I made of Matt Treanor and his wife. The guy made a dozen copies, all sizes, without my knowledge, and passed them out to friends to get signed at a Tigerfest many Januarys ago. Mr. Treanor loved the first one he saw but became increasingly angry the more he saw copies of it. To the point where he would not sign mine. Oh well, the love for the custom card. Just incase you would like to see a few of mine, they can be found here: http://www.sportscollectors.net/PhotoGallery.aspx?un=davidsb
ReplyDeleteI saw these cards. Thought they looked familiar.. There's a few others out there also
ReplyDeleteGio, you know how much I love your work. Simply outstanding! It is a part of my morning ritual. Check my Email. Check your site and then on to Facebook and my day... While I appreciate your books, I would really like to have these in card form. I simply will not buy your creations from a poser/thief... It would really be coo and time consuming to have the card backs done too... If you ever reproduce them like that, count me IN!
ReplyDeleteI found several of my creations among his listings. I sent him a "request" to stop selling my stuff. I'll update if I hear from him.
ReplyDeleteIf you want any of my "very cool custom made art cards" (his words, our cards) you are more than welcome to go to my blog and print them yourself. Print as many as you want, I don't own the rights to these cards and neither does he.
ReplyDeleteF* this guy. Look at the quality of the ones he printed. I have made better cards on my cheapo HP printer. Go to the dollar store, buy a sheet of posterboard, cut it into 8.5x11 sheets. You can make better quality cards than he is selling.
I stopped counting after I hit 125 of my cards in his "store". I would rather anybody who wants a card from my blog, just take it from me. Don't pay anybody for these cards. That includes me.
John, drinks are on ME when we meet buddy! Perfectly stated! F*ck this guy. Sure, we don't "own" the stuff we create because of the images used. However we put in the time and effort, for a labor of love. None of us expect to make $$ on this. So for him to do this is a joke, ESPECIALLY taking some of the late Bob Lemke's cards! Stealing from the dead?! Seriously?! Disgusting...
DeleteCan you place a small watermark on them?
ReplyDeleteI have to admit, the irony is hilarious considering the work that goes into "erasing" the watermarks already on them! Nah, it is what it is. My luck I'll put up a stink and then have trouble with Topps for designing these in the first place! What is truly amazing is that the guy is selling fake ACTUAL CARDS as well! How is THAT even possible!?!?!
DeleteGo to "Help & Contact" on eBay.com and "Report an item." Can't hurt.
ReplyDeleteThat's what pissing me off as well. Every time I go to search a major rookie card, I come across twenty cards being sold as reprints. And eBay lets it go on. They are too concerned about making eBay into Wal-Mart. One question ? Doesn't copy's of your cards, loose a lot of resolution if just saving from your internet "pic" ??
ReplyDeleteIt does lose resolution but if you look at complaints against this person, he doesn't seem to care that he is misrepresenting his listings. People are pissed when they get one of these cards from him.

ReplyDeleteThis guy needs to be stopped. I think I'm gonna send him a few nasty emails and then copy and paste them and resend them every day for the rest of his life. At least if he won't stop I may annoy the heck out of him. Does anybody know any more info on this guy? I would love to be able to post on one of his profiles that he is selling other people's work.
ReplyDeleteBelieve me, I WISH I had more info! I get that there's really nothing I can do, but it's so frustrating that there's no avenue via Ebay about this. I've been selling rare punk records on ebay for almost 20 years and they always hassled me about AUTHORIZED bootlegs, etc, yet things like this are out in the open! B.S.
