Today
the blog offers up a “not so missing” 1978 card for former San
Francisco Giants pitcher Tommy Toms, who appeared in what was the last
of his Big League games during the 1977 season:
Toms had a brief three year Major League career spanning 1975-1977, each
year ending up with an identical 0-1 record over 18 appearances for the
Giants.
For 1977, he finished with a nice 2.08 earned run average over 4.1
innings in four appearances, all out of the bullpen at the age of 25.
Sadly for him however, he would go on to spend all of 1978 in the Minor
Leagues in three different organizations: Cardinals, Orioles and
Rangers, before calling it a career.
All told, Toms finished with a career 0-3 record over the aforementioned
18 games, with a 5.40 ERA in 23.1 innings pitched, all in relief.
