Here’s
a missing “career-capping” card for veteran pitcher Steve Hamilton, who
closed out a 12-year career in 1972 with the Chicago Cubs:
Hamilton appeared in 22 games for the Cubs during the 1972 season,
posting a 1-0 record with a 4.76 earned run average over 17 innings of
work, all out of the ‘pen.
During his Major League career Hamilton appeared in a total of 421
games, all but 17 of those in relief, while finishing up with a 40-31
record along with a nice 3.05 ERA and 42 saves in 663 innings, mainly
for the New York Yankees, for whom he played between 1963 and 1970.
