Here’s
a “missing” 1977 card for former pitcher Eddie Solomon, “Buddy J”, who
appeared in 26 games for the St. Louis Cardinals in 1976:
Solomon posted an even 1-1 record during the Bicentennial year, pitching
37 innings with a 4.86 earned run average and 19 strikeouts.
He’d go on to pitch in the Majors through the 1982 season, finishing up
with a record of 36-42 with a 4.00 ERA over 191 appearances, 95 of them
starts, seeing the most action with the Atlanta Braves between 1977 and
1979.
Sadly, in 1986 at the age of only 34 he passed away in an automobile
accident in Macon, Georgia, having last pitched in a pro game during the
1983 season in the Yankees Minor League system.
